SAVE OUR WATER: ACTION NEEDED!
LEAN: "Last Chance to STOP SB 432 and Protect Our Drinking Water"
This week the Louisiana Environmental Action Network sent an email with an important call to action:
Last Chance to STOP SB 432 and Protect Our Drinking Water
In their email, LEAN explains:
We are writing to you because yesterday [May 7th] the Louisiana House Committee on Natural Resources and Environment approved SB 432. SB 432 is a dangerous bill that seeks to limit the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation Commission’s ability to track well usage in the Southern Hills Aquifer. Luckily, we still have a chance to stop this industry sponsored bill in the full House of Representatives. Please write to your Representative and ask them to vote NO on SB 432. We must act quickly because this bill will likely be in the House early next week. Six parishes rely on the Southern Hills Aquifer and it is our duty to protect it for ourselves and future generations.
Please call or email your Representative with a clear message: Please Oppose SB 432.
You can learn who your Representative is by using the Voter Portal here.
You can find your Representative’s contact information here.
This is one issue that should unite all of us who live in the Baton Rouge area. Access to clean drinking water is a basic necessity. And yet, the vast majority of people in Baton Rouge seem completely unaware that the Southern Hills Aquifer, our source of clean drinking water, is threatened with saltwater intrusion due to industry’s excessive use of the aquifer water for industrial purposes.
If this is the first you are hearing of this issue, please take a few minutes—2 minutes and 18 seconds to be precise—to watch a short video explaining what’s at stake and the source of the problem. You can find the video at the Save Our Water website: https://www.saveourwaterbr.com/.

And finally, thank you for taking a few minutes to read this post. We have a right to clean water, friends! If we work together, we can protect our drinking water for ourselves and future generations.
I hope you can win this fight. Our elected officials, for the most part, have betrayed us.
