Controversy Surrounding EBR School Board Map Continues
James C. Finney, Ph.D. provides an update
James Finney, Ph.D., one of my co-plaintiffs in the law suit challenging the map adopted by the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board in 2022, wrote a detailed update about the current state of affairs in regards to this matter. Tom Aswell kindly published it on his blog, Louisiana Voice. You can find that post here: Controversy Brewing
Spoiler alert: It appears the current members of the EBR School Board—all elected using a map that was undeniably unconstitutional—intend to use for the upcoming 2026 elections the map which some (including myself and fellow plaintiffs) argue violates the state constitution. Please read Finney’s post on Louisiana Voice for a thorough explanation.
Representation on the school board at this critical stage as St. George attempts to break away is especially meaningful. Who will make sure EBRPSS gets a fair deal if the voters approve the unjust and misguided proposal for yet another breakaway district in East Baton Rouge Parish? This is how the powers-that-be have been undermining democracy for decades.
If the controversy surrounding the EBR School Board’s election map is new to you, you can read more about it on my substack newsletter. The first posts I wrote about the redistricting of the school board in 2022 were entitled, “A Good Law is Hard to Find: The 2022 Redistricting of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board—Its implications for our public schools and democratic elections, Parts I & II.”
